This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is Room …. Tomorrow we end our 2 week tour of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. From here at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia we travel back to Vancouver and tonight begin a 1 week cruise along the coast of western coast of Canada and Alaska to Ketchikan and Glacier Bay. The Empress Hotel where we are now is one of the oldest and most famous hotels in British Columbia – facing Victoria_Harbour, and is an iconic symbol for the city itself. It has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada due to its national significance. Wandering the Hotel as I did today before dawn … the quiet corridors, deserted lounges and dining rooms, you see and feel the history – despite many renovations over the years the original character is intact, and many pieces of furniture here today date from the golden era. Two of the finest rooms in the Hotel …. the Empress Dining Room and the adjacent Harbourside Room are shown below in Black & White respecting the ageless architecture and ambience of this place.
For those interested, there is a small collection of images from the 2 weeks in the Canadian Rockies on my Flickr website (Menu on right). Probably there will not be a reliable internet onboard the Alaskan leg …. those images will have to wait until I return home. Also the Time-lapse movie.
