Travel Theme – Silver

Ailsa's Travel Theme this week is SILVER
Travel distance – 157,000 light years from Earth
The Large Magallenic Cloud is a nearby irregular galaxy, once thought to be a satellite of our own. It is visible in the night sky from the southern hemisphere, on the border between the constellations Dorado and Mensa.
Imaged 18 November 2012 at 9.30pm Canon 7D Piggy-backed on Celestron 9.25 Canon 24-105L @ f/4 ISO 1600 25secs 29 subs & 29 darks.
Re-processed from a previous post without colour enhancement – the way it is in the lens.

    1. I thought so too, but apparently in 2007, the Hubble ST determined that the Clouds were moving too fast to be gravitationally bound to the Milky Way ….. They are actually recent visitors, arriving only 1 – 3 billion years ago. The MC’s are not even bound to each other it seems. It’s hard to keep up with these developments.
