The Prague Castle Guard was founded in 1918 to provide security and today more than 600 troops serve in this military unit. The members are selected from the Army of the Czech Republic and must meet strict professional and educational requirements. In addition the soldiers must be in good physical shape.
In summer the guards (are supposed to) wear a light blue uniform ….. This was late Spring in Prague but as in much of Europe the cold of winter has lingered, and consequently the guards were still dressed in their dark blue winter uniforms.
Every day at noon the Castle Guard conduct a flag ceremony which is when they were heading on 29 April.
